Mabel Ubels (Mepel)

Nonconformity is at the heart of my creative practice, which aims to mitigate environmental exploitation and interrogate the stigmatisation of hyper-femininity. I used natural fibres and organic notions to construct this androgynous modular collection inspired by undergarments, experimenting with lasercut leather, the function of knitwear and zero waste patternmaking. My collection’s ethos is to conjure an extraordinary sense of reality using gothic dress as a tool of gender binary defiance.
