My primary focus for this year was writing, directing and editing the film ‘Wishbone’. My aim with Wishbone and as a creative generally is to bring a sense of grandeur into intimate storytelling. Attempting to depict the beautiful, messy, irrelevance of youth through a finely-trimmed, cinematic lens. My background as an actor bleeds heavily into my performance-driven process, while my placement within the Wellington art scene allows me to adopt contemporary artistic styles to blend with conventional theatre practice. Wishbone was written and created with the intention of highlighting my creative sensibilities, but through collaborative work with my amazing cast and crew, the film has become more than that, and I'm so stoked by how much Wishbone's incredible team has elevated the initial script.
I also worked as the gaffer on Flux and Dicky’s Last Rap. I’d never worked as a gaffer prior to these films, but through the two shoots I’ve grown a great love and appreciation for the role. I especially enjoyed working on Flux as the nature of the film meant that the lighting was crucial and required a lot of thought towards the set-up, which I was granted a lot of creative control in.
