Urban Awakening is a speculative design strategy that builds upon the current framework and typologies of Kainga Ora housing developments. The project engages with adaptive reuse design strategies and sustainable design theories to recenter social and environmental ecologies. Drawing from the past social ecologies of this site, the design restores the relationship between people, spatial infrastructure, and the environment, to transform an abandoned space into a socially rich, community-driven place.
