The first intervention acts as a welcoming meeting point, easing visitors’ transition into the civic precinct and onwards into the rest of the city.
The second intervention provides a space to rest and connect, while the final intervention offers a playful area that keeps children safely away from the train track.
This masterplan illustrates how each intervention integrates with both the current and proposed future plans of the Tauranga City Council._x000d_

Spatial Design
Spending Time reimagines Tauranga’s city centre as a social, playful and human-centred environment. Guided by Te Manawataki o Te Papa’s civic project framework connecting land and sea, it proposes interactive installations that enhance walkability and spark curiosity. By enlivening public space and fostering shared experiences, the project helps restore vibrancy and re-establish Tauranga’s heart as a connected and meaningful urban landscape.
